Learn MoreCall or submit the contact form. We ask a few basic questions about your project - size, goals, and whether your neighborhood has HOA requirements. We respond within 1 business day to schedule a free on-site estimate at no obligation to you.
We come to your yard, take measurements, assess the ground conditions, and talk through your options - size, materials, railing style, and any extras. You receive a written, fixed-price proposal within a few days. Once you approve it, we handle the permit application with the City of Oakley on your behalf.
Construction begins once permits are approved. Our crew digs footings, frames the structure, installs the surface, and passes the city inspection. We clean up when done, walk you through the finished project, and hand you the permit documentation. Your outdoor space is ready to use the same day we wrap up.
Our California contractor license is current and verifiable on the CSLB website. Every job is covered by general liability insurance - so if something unexpected happens on your property, you are protected.
We come to your yard, measure the space, and give you a written, itemized quote - at no charge. You can take that quote, compare it against others, and decide with no pressure. We never ask for payment before a contract is signed.
We are a locally owned business rooted in the East Bay since 2017. We know the City of Oakley permit office, the common HOA requirements in local subdivisions, and the clay soils that affect how footings need to be built here.
Your proposal includes a fixed price that does not change once you sign. We do not add line items after work starts. You approve the design and the number before we pull a single permit - so what you see on paper is what you pay at the end.

"We had a pretty steep slope in the backyard and honestly did not think a deck was possible. They came out, looked at the grade, and proposed a multi-level design that worked perfectly. Construction took about two weeks and they handled the Oakley permit from start to finish. The deck is solid - no flex, no noise underfoot."
Marcus T., Brentwood, CA - Multi-level decks
"Our old wood deck was rotting at the posts and a few boards were soft enough to be a safety issue. They replaced the entire surface with composite and rebuilt the frame where it had deteriorated. Finished on the day they said they would. The new deck handles the summer heat noticeably better than the old one ever did."
Diana R., Oakley, CA - Composite deck installation
"We live in a planned community in Antioch and needed both HOA and city approval before anything could be built. They prepared all the drawings and handled both submission processes. No back-and-forth issues, both approvals came through without any changes required. The vinyl fence looks clean and we have not touched it since installation."

Yes - almost always. Any deck attached to your home or more than 30 inches off the ground requires a building permit in California. Skipping it can create serious problems when you sell. The North American Deck and Railing Association has consumer resources explaining why permitted work protects you.
Composite wins for low maintenance in this climate. Oakley regularly hits 90-plus degrees in summer, and that heat breaks down unsealed wood faster than most homeowners expect. Composite boards cost more upfront but do not need annual staining and resist fading for decades.
A city inspector checks the structural frame - footings, beams, and joist connections - before any surface boards go down. This is the part you can never see once the deck is finished. Passing that inspection means the foundation of your deck has been verified by a third party, not just your contractor.
Oakley is close enough to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta that evening humidity is noticeably higher than in drier inland cities. That daily cycle of dry heat and damp evenings is harder on wood than either condition alone, and accelerates the breakdown of unsealed surfaces.
Surface boards that are splitting or gray can often be replaced without rebuilding the whole deck - if the structural frame is still solid. If the posts feel soft at the base or the frame has visible rot, a full replacement is usually safer and more cost effective than repeated repairs.
Ask for the license number and verify it on the California Contractors State License Board website - it takes two minutes. Also ask who pulls the permit, what the payment schedule looks like, and whether the price is fixed. Any contractor who cannot answer those three questions clearly is worth being cautious about.
Oakley Deck & Fence is a licensed and insured Deck Builder company based in Oakley, CA, serving 12 cities across Contra Costa County since 2017. We hold a current California contractor's license issued by the California Contractors State License Board, which requires proof of insurance and passing a state licensing exam. Since 2017, we have completed deck and fence projects across the East Bay, working on everything from ground-level pressure-treated decks to multi-level composite builds with pergolas and outdoor kitchens. If you want to learn more about how we work and who we are, read our full About page.
Grading a sloped yard flat is expensive and disrupts the soil. Building a multi-level deck over the slope often costs less and creates more usable outdoor space than leveling the lot.
The frame needs correctly sized lumber, hardware rated for outdoor exposure, and footings anchored below the clay-active soil layer. These are invisible once the deck is finished - which is exactly why they matter so much.
Seal before the summer season, not after. Heat and UV exposure break down the wood fibers throughout summer, and sealing already damaged wood locks problems in rather than protecting against them. Spring is the right time.

Oakley became its own city in 1999 and grew quickly through the 2000s, which means most of its neighborhoods are between 15 and 35 years old. That is old enough for decks and fences to need attention - boards drying out, posts showing rust at the base, and surfaces that have gone too long without sealing. The city sits in eastern Contra Costa County, and most of its residential neighborhoods are owner-occupied single-family homes on modest suburban lots.
A defining feature of Oakley is its location along the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The Big Break Regional Shoreline is right in town, and many neighborhoods sit close to sloughs and delta channels. That waterfront setting is part of what draws people here - but it also means evening humidity and Delta breezes that are harder on outdoor wood than the dry inland climate a few miles away. Homes near the water, particularly in older areas closer to the waterfront, see this effect more than the newer subdivisions off Neroly Road or near the city center.
Oakley Deck & Fence has been building decks and fences across Oakley since 2017. We know the permit office, the HOA requirements in subdivisions like Cypress Grove and Delta Coves, and the clay soil conditions that affect how footings need to be built here. Whether your home is steps from Big Break or in one of the newer subdivisions along the Highway 4 corridor, we are a local crew that builds for the conditions that actually exist here.
